A native of New Orleanian, Karen Carter Peterson has spent the past 20 years in service to the people of New Orleans and Louisianan both as a legislator and civic leader.

First elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 1999 and then to the Louisiana Senate in 2010, Karen has established herself as a powerful, worthy asset to Louisiana. She has served and led on several committees, including Chair of the Senate Governmnetal Affiars committee, Chari Senate Local and Muicipal Affairs, Committee, as the first woman to Chair the House Insurance Committee, and also as House Speaker Pro Tempore.  Throughout her tenure in the legislature, Karen has demonstrated a strong record of Leadership and advocacy for the communities she represents. 

Karen has a proven track record of breaking barriers for both women and the African American community; if elected to Congress, she will be the first woman of color to represent Louisiana in the House of Representatives.  She has spent her entire career as a tenacious advocate and has earned a well-deserved reputation as a fearless, battle-tested leader who does not back-down from a fight.   Help us send Karen to Washington.
